Excel Software has announced three self-hosted License Server products: Desktop License Server, Web License Server and Cloud License Server. These servers provide a license activation and management solution for any company that sells digital products including applications, libraries, plugins, ebooks, videos, PDFs, spreadsheets or games.
Each server product consists of an executable and data files that can be placed on a Linux or Windows web server and an Admin application that is installed on a Mac or Windows computer. The Admin application is used to configure licenses, generate serial numbers and manage customer records on the online server.
Desktop License Server supports software or documents used on Mac, Windows or Android OS protected with QuickLicense, AppProtect or DocProtect. The server automates the activation process of a protected product by collecting a Serial Number and other customer data in an Activation dialog. The server supports Trial, Product, Subscription, Floating and Dynamic licenses with advanced features like license release, restore, reset, suspend and remote feature enable.
The Excel Software suite of protection and licensing tools has been enhanced to support Desktop License Server. Those tools include QuickLicense, AppProtect, DocProtect, OfficeProtect, QLRT Xcode, AirLicense, Android License SDK and plugins for FileMaker and Xojo.
Web License Server can present web content on specific devices with Serial Number activation using the free SafeWebApp viewer. Vendors can distribute training guides, educational videos, maintenance manuals or paid content in a secure, controlled manner across the Internet.
SafeWebApp offers a way to turn virtually any web content into a sellable product that can be securely licensed and delivered to specific devices for paying customers. The web content can include HTML, javascript, flash, videos, PDFs and essentially anything else that is normally accessible within a web browser. SafeWebApp is a free, secure, Web App controlled browser for Mac, Windows, Linux or Android. It supports device specific licensing, user feedback, vendor notifications and a vendor controlled application index page.
Cloud License Server provides cloud centric license management for software running on any device or computer. It implements the Cloud License API [application programming interface] that consists of a small set of URL commands to activate, validate, release, restore and reset a software license. All license information is stored on the web server. Supported license types include Product, Time-Limited, Execution-Limited, Date-Limited, Floating and Subscription Licenses. Once activated, a license can be released, restored, reset or suspended. Additional features in the activated application can be remotely enabled.
Desktop, Web and Cloud License Server are each available as a complete, scaleable, in-house solution starting at US$695 with Demo editions available. Go to www.excelsoftware.com for more info.
