Elon Musk Says He Once Considered Selling Tesla To...
On Tuesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted that he considered selling his electric car company to Apple in recent years, but Apple CEO Tim Cook was not even interested in taking a meeting. CNBC reports: Specifically, Musk wrote in a tweet on December 22: "During the darkest days of the Model 3 program, I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla (for 1/10 of our current value). He refused to take the meeting." It was a rare admission from the mercurial CEO that he once considered giving up control of the company he helped build and take to a market value that's more than the top nine automakers combined. Tesla has not discussed a sale in any financial filing.
On Tuesday, Musk also made remarks about lithium iron phosphate batteries that Apple is reportedly developing for use in vehicles, per a Reuters report on Monday. "Strange, if true," Musk wrote. "Tesla already uses iron-phosphate for medium range cars made in our Shanghai factory.- A...

Apple TV 4K and tvOS: New device coming in 2021?
Apple TV has grown up a lot since its iTV days. It’s not just for video rentals and purchases anymore—Apple TV handles just about anything we watch, from House of Cards to Game of Thrones and Major League Baseball games, and now that also includes Apple TV+ content and Apple Arcade games.
With an extensive library of apps, Siri support, and a drop-dead simple interface, Apple TV is one of the underrated players in Apple’s lineup. Just like all those years ago, it’s still the device that “completes the story” of Apple’s entertainment ecosystem, and even without some of the bells and whistles of its competitors, Apple TV is still one of the best streaming boxes you can buy—from SD to HD to brilliant 4K.

Apple reportedly plans a revamped Apple TV set-top...
In a new Bloomberg report, Mark Gurman reiterates his previous prediction that Apple is planning an Apple TV set-top box with a stronger gaming focus, an updated remote and a new processor for 2021.
“Those changes will fix some of the Apple TV box’s issues, but the product will need to take another big leap—akin to its 2015 changes—to remain competitive in the long term. Either that or it needs to get a lot cheaper,” he writes.
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks the set-top box will indeed get a more powerful processor, as well as bigger storage options with a focus on making even more powerful games available on the Apple Arcade gaming service. I also think Apple will introduce its own gamepad that will work with the Apple TV, as well as Macs and iPads.

iPhone 12 grabs top spot in 5G mobile list
Just two weeks after the iPhone 12 was launched the Apple product became the number 1 bestseller in the 5G smartphone list for the month of October.
The two-week window ended up with Apple iPhone 12 to become the number 12 bestseller of 5G phones between January to October this year.
The second bestselling 5G mobile was the iPhone 12 Pro, with the third being the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Ultimately, both iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 garnered approximately a fourth of total 5G mobile phone sales for October.
It’s believed that the strong sales were due to the demand for a 5G device within iOS userbase and promotions from US carriers, which amounted to more than a third of iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 sales. Also, the iPhone has a wider market coverage compared to other 5G devices.
The sales contributed to mmWave-capable device penetration from 5 to 12 percent in September to October.

Apple Cars expected to arrive 2024
A Reuters report has pegged down the Apple Car, a self-driving vehicle to be produced by 2024.
It’s largely believed that the Cupertino-based company has been working on a car product since 2014. There were rumors that the project would end up being an autonomous vehicle software, but after hiring shifts and management changes Apple looks ready to begin producing vehicles.
There was also talk of Apple delving into a new kind of battery technology that could improve driving range and is cheaper to make. A monocell design is being considered for bulking up and eliminating battery materials, modules and pouches to free up space. Also, Apple is exploring LFP, or lithium ion phosphate compounds, which won’t overheat as much as traditional batteries and are therefore safer to use.
The Cupertino-based company will need to...

Rare interview with Mario and Zelda creator,...
The New Yorker:
In 1977, Shigeru Miyamoto joined Nintendo, a company then known for selling toys, playing cards, and trivial novelties. Miyamoto was twenty-four, fresh out of art school. His employer, inspired by the success of a California company named Atari, was hoping to expand into video games. Miyamoto began tinkering with a story about a carpenter, a damsel in distress, and a giant ape. The result, Donkey Kong, débuted in 1981. Four years later, Miyamoto had turned the carpenter into a plumber; Mario, and the Super Mario Bros. franchise, had arrived. But Miyamoto wanted more. Tired of linear, side-scrolling mechanics, he yearned to conjure the open world and carefree adventures of his childhood in Sonobe, a town just west of Kyoto. In 1986, Nintendo released The Legend of Zelda.
And:
Miyamoto turned sixty-eight in November. He’s been linked to Walt Disney since the early days of his career, and those comparisons are set to continue; Miyamoto is currently...

Ted Lasso likely to end after Season 3
ComicBook.com:
While it has not yet been widely reported, Lawrence said as much on an early December episode of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, a Scrubs rewatch podcast hosted by series stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison.
Lawrence refers to Scrubs and Ted Lasso creator Bill Lawrence.
During a conversation about the state of The Mandalorian, Lawrence was opining on the difficulty of making a second season to a show where everyone loved the first season. When asked whether he was concerned about that on Ted Lasso, he said it was less of an issue on a series that is designed as finite.
And:
“I think that ours is a little different because Jason, as he’s kind of mapping it out, it’s a three-season show,” Lawrence explained. “So…super-fans know that [The Mandalorian is] connecting tissue in the Star Wars universe, and for us, everybody knows that they get an end to this story in the third season.”
Normally, I’d put this off as rumor, take with a...

Apple patent involves multi-user support for iOS,...
Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,872,152) for “provision of domains in secure enclave to support multiple users.” It hints at multi-user support finally coming to iPad and iPhone devices. However, the tech giant ants to make such support safe and protective of your data.
Computing devices such as iPhones and iPads can employ passcode protection to protect data stored on the device. They can prevent unauthorized access to stored data using protection mechanisms in including presenting a login screen that requires a user to provide a user name/password combination and/or a numeric or alphanumeric passcode.
Before a user can obtain access to data stored on the computing device, the user may be required successfully authenticate via the login screen. However, as Apple notes, it may still be possible to gain access to data stored on the computing system without knowledge of a username/password or passcode if the data is stored in an...

Apple’s patent for ‘virtual salesperson system and...
Sometimes you need a flesh and blood salesperson, sometimes just a digital one. At least that’s Apple’s premise in its newly granted patent (number 10,872,373) for a “virtual salesperson system and method.” Interestingly, with all the “Apple Car” rumors floating around, the patent specially mentions car dealerships.
In the patent data, the tech giant notes that products are often sold via the interaction between a customer and a salesperson using various technologies. For example, automobile dealerships have sales applications installed on desktop computers at salespeople's desks, or available as a public kiosk, perhaps combined with a mobile website. When a consumer visits the dealership, they may walk the dealership's lot with a brochure, or they have to engage with a salesperson to find out...

Lost text in a browser form submission? Avoid it...
We live on the web. Web apps mean we enter extensive amounts of text into form fields or pages that look like forms all the time. The best tools, like Google Docs, automatically save as we type, preventing the loss while connected to the internet of more than a few characters or a sentence or so.
But most web pages have no backup. If you misfire and click too early, if we click Reset Form instead of Submit, if the Web site suffers an error and dumps your submission, if your browser crashes, if the tab in your browser stutters and fails—we’ve lost whatever we typed.
There’s a way to prevent this. In Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, you can install an extension that automatically back up form entries.

Comment: I’ll believe in the Apple Car launch when...
Yesterday saw the latest report of a planned Apple Car launch, this time saying it will happen in 2024.
This is, of course, just the latest instalment in the long-running Apple Car saga which dates at least as far back as 2007. Phil Schiller said that Apple execs discussed building a car even before the company released the first iPhone in 2007, and Tony Fadell recalls kicking the idea around with Steve Jobs in 2008.
The first tentative evidence of the company actively working on a car project came to light in 2015, when Apple began poaching Tesla engineers – though we noted at the time that this didn’t...
